ESG, sustainability and innovation
From their sustainably powered BRC AA+ fermentation and bottling facility, Broadland Drinks produce lower carbon wines and drinks. The winery has the capacity to pack up to 50 million litres of drinks per annum and the recently added canning line has capacity to produce 20 million cans per year. The company currently has 30mL pa spare capacity. Certifiably Organic and Fairtrade, Broadland are inclusive in their selection, also specialising in vegan drinks.
In December 2023 they were recognised at the Drinks Business' Green Awards where they received the ‘Water Management Award’ for going above and beyond to reduce their impact on the environment through their new waste-water processing system. This initiative alone has enabled them to remove the carbon-intensive tinkering of dirty liquids, taking almost 3000 HGVs off the road. This latest accolade, as well as their shortlisting in the ‘Renewable Energy Implementation’ category, is testament to the industry leading initiatives the team is constantly evolving to reduce their impact, as well as the impact of their customers, on the environment.
Never complacent, the company is also launching a ‘one stop shop to cut carbon’ through UK-fermented wines, lightweight glass bottles, cans, bag in box, pouches, kegs and paper bottles to help retailers cut their carbon footprint. It presents a massive opportunity and differentiator for them in the market.
The company is also looking to eliminate its fossil fuel usage from its operations by 2025. To help to reach its target, Broadland deploys a range of measures including using 100% renewable electricity, while also generating a third of its own electricity from 1,000 solar PV roof panels. It sends zero waste to landfill and cleans its own wastewater.
